"Recent casualty lists contained the name of Corpl. Walter Slayter, 9th Batt., Rifle Brigade, as being killed. It is believed he fell about a month ago. Deceased was well-known in this locality, and was formerly in the employ of Mr H. Elliott, tailor, of Middleton Stoney. He belonged to the Oxfordshire Volunteer Band, and at one time was an innkeeper at Fritwell." Bicester Herald 30/07/1915
