Husband of Louisa Sherwood. Son of George & Julia Sherwood. Born in Eynsham. A coachbuilder.

"We report, with much regret, the death, under tragic circumstances, of Pte. Caleb John Sherwood, A.S.C., M.T., late of the Causeway, Bicester, which took place recently as the result of the sinking of the ship on which he was being transported to Egypt. His sister, Mrs H. Bourton, of Bell-lane, has received meagre details. It appears that following upon the sinking of his ship he was picked up still alive, but from the effects of exposure he contracted pneumonia, to which he succumbed.
Pte. Sherwood was a native of Witney, but before coming to Bicester to live was known to many people in the town through his interest in football. He had, previous to joining up, been employed for some time by Mr W. Townsend, whom he served in the capacity of coach-builder, and upon joining the army he followed the same occupation. He was a married man, and 39 years of age." Bicester Herald 04/05/1917
